A former governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, is dead. He passed on last night at the age of 75. The late Doma who holds the traditional title of Maduacin (Okuba) of Doma was said to have died in an Israeli Hospital after battling with an undisclosed ailment. The demise of the former governor was confirmed to our correspondent last night by some of his close associates. He was elected governor of Nasarawa State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and served from 2007 to 2011 when he lost to the incumbent, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura. Meanwhile, the chairman of Obi local government area of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Saadatu Ayitogo, described the death of the former governor as a big loss to the state and the country as a whole. Ayitogo who spoke to our correspondent on phone said, “My heart goes out to the families, friends and well-wishers of the former governor. Indeed, this death is shocking”. According to her, the deceased was a community leader and technocrat par excellence whose wealth of experience would be missed by all. She prayed Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljanatul firdaus and give his families solace and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Before becoming governor in 2007, the late Doma was a retired super permanent secretary in the old Plateau State. He was also a member of the defunct constitutional conference in 2014 where he served as a member of the security committee. He is survived by three wives and many children.]]>
