THE Federal Government has commenced review of promotions of officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps done at the twilight of the last administration of the former Commandant General, Dr Ade Abolurin.
Thenigerialawyer. gathered that some officers of the corps had called on the Federal Government to investigate the irregularities in the special promotions in the agency.

It was alleged that an officer, who was promoted to an Assistant Superintendent 1, got upgraded to Deputy Superintendent within a few days.

It was also alleged that only officers recruited in 2010 or earlier were eligible to write the recent promotion examination.

The aggrieved staff further alleged that those who were recruited after 2010 did not participate in the conversion examination but were being promoted.

The ongoing review of the promotion exercise, it was learnt, haD led to demotion of over 500 officers.

But the Public Relations Officers of NSCDC, Mr Emanuel Okeh, when contacted, said the allegations were unfounded, saying an independent, Civil Defence, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDIPB) conducted the promotion examinations in April this year and only the officers who passed were promoted.

Okeh explained that the revoiew of the promotion was being done by the board that did the promotion in the first place and not a directive by the Federal Government to probe the exercise as alleged.

According to him, the promotion examination conducted by the board in 2015 was the first of such in 10 years of establishment of the corps.

He noted that some officers who did not sail through the promotion examination petitioned the board and that the board decided to look into their complaints.]]>
