The Chairman of the Lagos branch of the NBA, Chukwuka Ikwazom has debunked the allegation of sacking Justice U John, the Publicly Secretary of the Young Lawyer’s Forum, Lagos branch.

In a chat with the Chairman, TheNigerialawyer (TNL) gathered that the removal of Justice U John as the Publicly Secretary on the ground of insubordination and it was a unanimous decision of the NBA Lagos branch executives to remove.

According to the Chairman, it was not his personal decision, rather, it was that of the executive committee.

“The reason given is that, from the day Justice was appointed as the Publicly Secretary of the Young Lawyer’s Forum Lagos branch, he has remained a negative influence among the executive committee of YLF.

”About three to four months ago, I had to call all the executive members of YLF to mediate because they said he went to a platform to insult a female lawyer.

”Others attended, but Justice U. John stayed away from the meeting. As I speak to you, Justice has not called me to explain why he didn’t attend the meeting. The reason he was removed is that some young lawyer under the name:” Concerned Young Lawyers” sent a petition to the Commissioner of Police. When a Senior member of the branch drew it to my attention, the executive committee met and issued a statement that it is not necessary for different groups to duplicate petitions. On Friday, I led a delegation of some members of the branch executive committee to submit a strongly worded petition to the Commissioner of Police. We explained that if every group of lawyers starts writing the petition to the COP, then it will look like we are not speaking in one voice and the Senior lawyer who ordered for the alleged assault on Olakunle Karimu can get different young lawyers to write and counter the ones the young lawyers have already written.

”So they should allow the executive of the branch to speak in one voice. This was the advice that was given. The next thing Justice did was to get some of his friends from YLF, they started writing all sorts of things abusing the members of the executive committee.
As if that was not enough, he copied all the chats people wrote on YLF and dumped them on NBA Lagos branch Whatsapp platform and people started complaining.

“About fourteen (14) young lawyers, some of which are members of the Executive committee of YLF, signed the petition but none was removed except Justice,” he added.
