More facts have emerged on why former Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Nuhu Gidado, who resigned last Wednesday, left the Governor Mohammed Abubakar administration. Although he had tried to leave earlier except that he was being prevailed upon at each turn he tendered his resignation letter not to rock the boat, he eventually left because he was tired of doing nothing apart from just reading newspapers all day. Gidado, who submitted his letter of resignation late on Wednesday night, cited amongst other reasons, “waning enthusiasm for the job”, a development many political observers in the state reckon could constitute a major setback to the reelection of Governor Abubakar. A THISDAY source, who pleaded anonymity, said Gidado had lost the zeal to just show up at work only to spend the rest of the day reading the newspapers or wait to be told what to do by Governor Abubakar,” adding that he had no responsibilities assigned to him. In his resignation letter, he had noted that, “Ordinarily, I should have remained up to the end of the tenure, but, with the currently dampened spirit and waning zeal as it relates to my official engagements, my continued stay will not be fair and truthful to you as my brother and leader.” He therefore declared that he had lost interest in the job and extended his appreciation to the people of the state for giving him the opportunity to serve. Aside failure to assign responsibilities, THISDAY sources also disclosed that Gidado had fallen out with Abubakar over what observers considered irreconcilable differences a long time ago but had held on thinking things would change after some time. Unfortunately, Gidado’s resignation has further depleted the camp of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, considering the fact that a number of high-ranking officials in the state’s cabinet had since left the government at different times, also for alleged political differences with the governor. For instance, sometime in 2017, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Shehu Barau Ningi, resigned from his position, because according to him, the governor did not encourage members of his cabinet to offer advice on how to run the state. The Governor was also said to have single-handedly run the state for a very long time after sacking the cabinet. But Ningi, while briefing news men on why he resigned, explained that, “The environment in which I would have exercised my advisory role as a member of the State Executive Council was unaccommodating, debilitating and non-adviser friendly”. Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment, Samaila Sanusi and the Special Assistant on Scheduling, Tahir Ibrahim, resigned due to what they described as “unfriendly working environment”, saying all avenues to hold talks with the governor on official issues and development were unsuccessful. The governor has been facing stiff opposition from APC chieftains in the state, particularly members of the National Assembly over what was described as the leadership style of the governor, which they claimed excludes them from being involved in the running of the state. This was however given fillip to, when Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara-led faction of the APC refused to participate in the congresses of the party held earlier in the month and even went ahead to institute a suit against the party at a Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking nullification of the exercise.]]>
