Scores of persons were recently murdered when gunmen invaded Logo, Turan, Mbagber, Yonov, Tombo, Varser and Anyin in Logo and Ukum local government areas of the state. The killings followed several others in recent months. Hundreds are believed to have been killed in the clashes in Benue this year alone. Reacting to the deteriorating security situation on Wednesday, Mr. Mark, an indigene of the state, decried the continued invasion of Benue communities by armed Fulani herdsmen. “Enough of the blood bath. Enough of this massacre. This war is senseless and needless. Why should we continue to kill ourselves and destroy our hard- earned properties,” Mr. Mark said in a statement by his media aide, Paul Mumeh. “It is time federal government steps in to salvage this situation. It has become too worrisome and truly intolerable. Mr. Mark said Benue state government must as a matter of urgency liaise with the federal government to salvage the situation. “Whatever the bone of contention may be, resorting to taking another’s life cannot be a way out of the quagmire. We must live like civilized human beings,” he said.]]>
