On the 18th day of September, 2017, some legal wigs will be conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN) which is the highest rank to be given to a legal practitioner in Nigeria.

Persons to be conferred with the rank are expected to be persons of sound legal antecedents; they must be person that who have contributed immensely to the development of the legal profession in Nigeria as laid down in the relevant Laws. One of such persons who have fulfilled the criteria laid down in the Law and will soon be robed with the silk is Mr. Enema Okpoko.

Emeka Okpoko is a legal practitioner with over 28 years cognate experience in litigation, Arbitration, Dispute Resolution and Consultancy in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Aviation law, Telecommunications, Election Petitions and Banking Practice, the list goes on.

Emeka has advised clients on several complex transactions and has earned a reputation for being a thorough bred legal practitioner.

Emeka possesses deep wealth of knowledge and experience in Telecommunications Law as well as the workings of the Federal Aviation Agencies, having represented the telecommunications giant in over forty legal disputes. He has similarly acted for the Federal Aviation Agency banks and numerous commercial ventures, up to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Emeka’s legal skills extend to advocacy in Election Petition matters. He was in the legal team that successfully represented the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi on his tenure interpretation matter. He was also in the legal team that represented the current Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano at the Election Petitions Tribunal amongst others.

For those who do not know much about his educational background; Emeka Okpoko graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in 1988 where he bagged his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree. He attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos in 1988 and was called to the Nigeria Bar in 1989. He obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the University of Lagos in 2002.

As a legal practitioner,he is a member of the Nigeria Bar Association, the Nigeria Bar Association Section on Legal Practice. He is also a member of the Governing Council Office of Public Defender, Anambra State, Governing Council Citizens Right Directorate, Anambra State, Governing Council Citizens Mediation Centre, Anambra State, the Anambra State Judicial Service Commission and the Chairman and member of the Disciplinary Committee for Petitions and Discipline of Magistrates in Anambra State, amongst others.

Apart from acquiring knowledge, Emeka loves to share knowledge and also mentor the young lawyers at the Bar. He is the author of many published articles.

He was recently awarded with the highly coveted chieftaincy title of Okwuabudike Agulu of Anambra State by His Royal Highness, Igwe (Dr.) Innocent Elochukwu Obodoakor KSJ, in recognition of his selfless and outstanding contributions to the good of the society.

Mr. Emeka has for years being into Litigation; Consultancy and Process Advisory; Dispute Resolution: Arbitration and ADR; International Trade and Investment; Transport: Aviation, Project Finance and Construction Law; Oil and Gas.
