EBF, A Relic Of Unprofessionalism For A Legal Practitioner Properly So Called By Silas Joseph Onu

The list adopted individuals is a list of people who are sentimentally, clanish and ehtnic candidate that must be voted against by all means. This list represent chaos and disrespect for the choice of lawyers to freely elect those they feel should lead them. Candidates are adopted for illiterates who may make mistakes at the ballot. Why should a body of lawyers select candidates for other lawyers? That is an insult on the sensibility of any legal practitioner properly so called. This act is akin to market women association election, and should not be heard of in a group or association of lawyers. It is a shame and complete show of lack of grounding in basic education for any lawyer to be promoting this nonsense for any primordial or pecuniary reason whatsoever. It is an indication that such a person celebrating the curtailing of his or her right to choose has indeed wasted their education and is unfit to be called a lawyer. I have been following to sordid arguments on this platform and to say the least, I am sorely disappointed that lawyers do not recognise their rights. I came to the conclusion that Nigeria is truly in trouble if the lawyer cannot understand the basics of electioneering. All those shouting adoption are worse than Esau and will sell their birth right for a plates of indomie. How can anyone imagine that Arthur Obi Okafor, SAN should lead the Nigerian Bar Association? I have utmost respect for him, but I think that he has never been tried in any form of leadership. The office of the NBA President is not a traditional stool and should not be negotiated as such. Imagine an Association with the like of Professor Ernest Ojukwu, SAN rooting for someone who has no history in the Bar. The same group that was formed to advance the professional interest of lawyers from the old Eastern region of Nigeria has today become an ugly business contraption with the base colouration of a student union movement that invite politicians to their activities in order to solicit for monetary benefits – it is a shame. The Nigerian Bar Association is actually dwindling into an abyss with its complete lack of authority to check the politicization & “ethnicization” of the Association by a few who now see the Bar as a village meeting where any drunkard can impose his will on a sane multitude. One word, I may not have any other interest in the forth coming election, but I will certainly make it a duty to campaign against all the names in the list of adoptees for what it represents – the past.
