A 30-year-old driver, Yahaya Yusuf, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for alleged reckless and dangerous driving.

The prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the accused person committed the offences on Oct. 11, at about 4:30 p.m. on Alekuwodo area of Osogbo.

Abiodun said the accused drove a heavy duty vehicle owned by Dangote Cement dangerously and damaged a street light pole.
The prosecutor said the accused refused to comply with the Osun Government order to repair the damaged pole and he was brought to the court.

He said the offences contravened Sections 23(D) and 135 of the Criminal Code Laws of Osun, 2003 and Section 28 of the Road Traffic Act of Osun, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Kenneth Ngokwe, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs Halimatu Bashiru, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

Bashiru said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, show evidence of tax payment and attach two sized photographs.
The magistrate adjourned the case till Dec. 23, for hearing.
