Obinna James was arrested and charged before Apapa Magistrate’s court for allegedly brutalising his wife, Ebere when she refused to have sex with him. The incident happened at 26, Babatunde Street, Olodi Apapa, where they reside. The mother of three who is a hawker was said to have resisted her husband’s attempts to impregnate her. She reportedly told him that they were not financially buoyant to add to the three kids they already have, comprising a girl and two boys. While Obinna forcefully attempted to have sex with Ebere, she fled their apartment. In anger, Obinna allegedly chased her and held her on the street, forcing her to return to their apartment but she still resisted him. Because she maintained her stance, Obinna allegedly battered her and threw her inside a gutter, leaving her bruised and badly injured. It took the intervention of the residents, who rescued the victim and took her to a hospital for treatment. The residents also contacted the police and Obinna was arrested. At the station, the police asked him to apologise to his wife and take care of her medical bill but he refused. The police then preferred charges against him and arraigned him before the court with assault and occasional harm, to which he pleaded not guilty. The presiding magistrate, Mr T. Abolarinwa granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum and the matter was further adjourned till May 11, 2016.]]>
