A High Court sitting at Onitsha presided over by Hon. Justice MNO Okonkwo slammed Zenith Bank Plc the sum of 11Million Naira for negligence. The plaintiff Iwuchukwu Okeke through its counsel C.J. Okeke Esq. of (TRULAW CHAMBERS) commenced the action on 17th March 2017 claiming damages for defendant’s negligence and illegal detention of his money. The fact of the case was that plaintiff deposited the sum of N550, 000.00 to Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) account through the defendant. The defendant received the money but failed/refused/omitted/neglected to credit NBC account for NBC to deliver goods to the plaintiff. This negligent delay lasted for about 10days. Several visits to defendant’s branch to effect the payment proved abortive. Plaintiff through its solicitor wrote the defendant but the defendant failed/refused/omitted to reply the letter. The court in a considered judgment delivered on 30th April 2018 held that the plaintiff proved its case and awarded a total sum of 11million (Eleven Million Naira) against Zenith Bank Plc together with 25% interest on the judgment sum until final liquidation of same. Indeed justice was served. This goes as deterrence to all Banks/financial institutions and indeed all companies who are negligent in dealing with its customers. ]]>
