The two convicts, Daniel Itah Effiong and Bamitale Olayemi, are to die by hanging after they were found guilty of the three-count charge which are conspiracy to murder, murder and robbery. The duo were accused of strangling the 79-year-old professor to death at his residence in Ijapo Estate, Akure, Ondo State, on June 21, 2015 and went away with his Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and some other valuables. The offence, according to the prosecutor, was contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006. Four witnesses were called during the proceedings while various exhibits were also tendered against the two convicts by the prosecution team, led by the state Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs Adejoke Adeyemi-Tuki While giving his ruling, Justice William Olamide held that the prosecution was able to establish and prove beyond reasonable doubt that the two convicts were responsible for the killing of the former vice chancellor.]]>
