It was learnt that the case was transferred from Banni Division to State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit, Ilorin. The police prosecutor, Inspector David Wodi, told the court that on February 15, one Seriki Fulani Adera, Alhaji Mohammadu Maiyakana reported to the police that sometimes in January, one Alhaji Yaro was kidnapped by some gunmen. He said the complainant strongly suspected one Abubakar Sidi. The prosecutor said, “On the strength of intelligence information received, Abubakar Sidi was arrested and confessed that he, one Dan- Mallam Aliyu, Sani and Muhammadu Janbuna, all of the same camp, kidnapped the victim and some prominent Fulani men who were reporting their criminal activities to the Seriki and other security men. “The arrest of the first accused led to the arrest of Muhammadu Janbuna, who is the kingpin of the gang. Investigation revealed that Abubakar Sidi, Muhammadu Janbuna, Dan-Mallam Aliyu and Sani are notorious criminals, who specialized in robbery, stealing cows and kidnapping Fulani.” He urged the court to adjourn the case for further mention so as to arrest the fleeing suspects and conclude investigation on the case. The accused were charged with kidnapping, an offence that is punishable under Section 305 of Penal Code. Chief Magistrate Mohammed Ndakene ordered that the accused be remanded at Federal Prison, Oke-Kura in Ilorin and adjourned the case to March 30.]]>
