A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted leave to a human rights organization to compel the sack of the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Justice Danladi Umar over allegations of receiving N10 million as bribe.

Justice Binta Nyako granted the leave sought by Kingdom Human Rights Foundation seeking an order of mandamus to compel the National Assembly and the President to formally sack Umar.

The coordinator of the foundation, Kingdom Okere in a statement yesterday, said the court granted the group leave to commence action for judicial review of administrative action/inaction against the defendants.

The group joins as defendants in the suit, the CCT, Justice Umar, the President Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney General of the Federation and the National Assembly.

In the substantive suit, the lawyer wants the court to determine “Whether or not the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Mr. Danladi Yakubu Umar has breach the Code of Conduct for public officer and has put himself in a situation where his personal interest conflicts with his official duty, and should immediately be suspended and ordered to vacate the office and cease to act as the chairman of the tribunal.”

Justice Nyako ordered that Justice Umar be served personally with the originating processes.

The matter has been adjourned to May 21 for hearing.
