Burna Boy enters ‘not guilty’ plea as he gets N100,000 bail

Burna Boy was granted bail on Monday after appearing before an Ikeja Magistrate Court. Mr 2Kay who was allegedly robbed at gunpoint in his hotel room at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on October 22, after his performance at the “Buckwyld ‘N’ Breathless” concert. He had claimed that he was dispossessed of a Swiss Audemars Piguet wristwatch and other valuables. The police had invited Burna Boy for interrogation, but the singer was later declared wanted after he failed to show up at the police station. The singer reportedly turned himself in to the police last week and he was detained. One Joel Kantiock, Burna Boy’s road manager alongside Balogun Ademola, Obinna Igwe, and Tunmise Omotore who had been paraded as the suspects who robbed Mr. 2kay were alleged to have been sent by the musician. On Monday, Burna Boy was brought to court in a Tshirt and blue Jean trousers, Vanguard Newspaper reported. He was charged with ‘accessory after the fact’ and ‘conspiracy’. He pleaded not guilty. According to the Prosecutor, Inspector N. Peters, Burna Boy did not disclose to security operatives what he knew about the armed robbery. Burna Boy’s lawyer, Bright Idahosa asked the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, a move which was not opposed by the police prosecutor. However, the lawyers representing Eko Hotel and Suites and Mr 2Kay’s record label, Grafton Entertainment, opposed the bail application, insisting that Burna Boy is a key witness in a sister case where the main suspects in the armed robbery case against Mr 2Kay are standing trial. Tayo Reju, representing Eko Hotel and Suites pointed out that granting Burna Boy bail would jeopardize the sister case at a Lagos State Magistrate Court. But the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B. O Osunsanmi after listening to both parties, granted Burna Boy bail of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties, while the matter was adjourned till December 29 for trial to commence.]]>
