President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family and friends of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Aloysius Katsina-Alu, who passed away on Wednesday. Mr Buhari’s condolence message is contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja on Wednesday. He joined the government and people of Benue, the Nigerian Bar Association and the National Judicial Council in mourning the erudite jurist. The president noted that the deceased contributed immensely to the structuring of Nigeria’s jurisprudence. He affirmed that Justice Katsina-Alu’s knowledge, experience and diligence impacted greatly on governance in Nigeria as he featured prominently in landmark cases. The president believed the late chief justice left behind a legacy of discipline, brilliance and diligence that younger jurists should emulate. Mr Buhari prayed that the almighty God would grant the soul of the departed a good rest and comfort his family. A former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has also commiserated with the family of Mr Katsina-Alu, describing him as an illustrious jurist. The ex-president made this known in a condolence message to the deceased’s immediate family and the Government of Benue State. In a statement issued Wednesday by Ikechukwu Eze, the former president’s media adviser, Mr Jonathan also described him as a sound legal mind who left indelible contributions to the nation’s jurisprudence. He said “Late Katsina-Alu was an illustrious jurist whose dedication to duty took him to the peak of his career. As the chief justice of Nigeria, late Katsina-Alu believed in the principle of separation of powers and stood firmly for the independence of the judiciary. “He was a devout man of faith who placed God first in his service to humanity. “The late Justice Katsina-Alu would be remembered for his invaluable and indelible contributions to the nation’s jurisprudence.” (NAN)]]>
