The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), A.B. Mahmoud, OON, SAN, has called on all the five NBA branches of Ondo and Ekiti states to synergize and present a common front in order to facilitate interaction with the national body for the purpose of achieving infrastructural development.
Speaking during an interactive session with the Chairmen and Bar leaders from these branches, the NBA President said that, for logistical reasons, it would be unwieldy and cumbersome for the national body to deal with each and every branch for the purposes of achieving meaningful infrastructural development like the building of a befitting Bar centre. He argued that if all the five branches of Ondo state could pull resources together, they could raise a magnificent Bar Centre which would be well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
Whilst encouraging cluster branches to maximise the opportunity of s synergy, he further contended that they could attract development partners faster by their sheer size and this would be for the betterment of the members in the long term than if they present themselves as mushroom branches with few members.
The Chairmen of the different Branches, of Akure, Ado Ekiti, Ikere, Owo, and Ikole Ekiti subsequently gave situation reports of their respective branches, each making request for support to build their Bar centres. The Ado Ekiti branch further gave a report of a Toyota Camry prize awarded to the “Best Lawyer,” of the year in the Branch as a form of encouragement for professional excellence in the Bar.
The evening of interaction was also attended by His Excellency, the Governor of Ondo State, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, over 40 members of the different branches, their respective branch chairmen, members of the NBA National Executive Committee, and Staff of the NBA Secretariat; amongst others.
