The petition which was to notify the office of the IGP of their intention to stage a four-day peaceful protest was Signed by Olubukola Anike Ajiga Esq, Dr, Stanley Egeonu, Pharm. Adbulganiyu Adekunle, Stanley Ugoeze, Abdullahi Idris and Elochukwu Onyekwelu for the remaining Awardees. The Nigerialawyer recalls that the combined set of 2012, 2013, and 2014 NYSC Presidential Honours Awardees were awarded National Honours ( on March 2, 2015) premised on extraordinary exemplary Community Development Services unilaterally embarked upon during their NYSC service years. The National Honours Award Ceremony was conducted by the Federal Government of Nigeria during the tenure of the erstwhile President Goodluck E. Jonathan with the attendant scholarship benefits to 164 distinguished recipients from Master’s level to PhD levels. In consequence of the Award, a fraction of about 74 Awardees have since concluded their Master’s degree programme since 2015 (under the current dispensation) under the aegis of Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and proceeded for their Ph.D whilst the remaining 90 are yet to be issued their scholarship letters and yet to be funded. It was initially said that the remaining 90 Awardees sponsorship were to be funded under the auspices of Tertiary Education Trust Fund. After incessant visits to TETFUND, myriads of reasons were alluded that TETFUND does not have the mandate and requisite budget to fund the scholarship. According to the petition, after consultation they were told that the Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) has been mandated to fund their scholarship programme. However the FSB did not respond positively despite efforts made. According to them, all local remedies have been utilized but all to no avail, hence they are left with no other option than staging the peaceful protest. According to the petition, the protest held on the 12th day of February, 2018.]]>
