A lawyer from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, K. A. Fagbemi, made the plea while reacting to separate motions filed by the suspects asking that they should be released on bail. The suspects; Mahmud Hassan, Oscar Okafor, Donatus Achinulo, Matthew Okoye (said to be at large) and Salihu Danjuma, were on June 14 docked before the court on an eight-count charge of conspiracy, importation of prohibited firearms, forgery, uttering of forged documents and bribery. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and were eventually remanded in prison custody by the judge. Arguing government’s counter affidavit to the bail applications at the resumed hearing of the matter on Monday, Fagbemi said it would be unhealthy for the court to release the accused persons to the society on bail.]]>
