Justice Ogbuli had at the sitting of the court on 8th September mandated the Police to release the suspects or present them in court following an exparte application filed by the suspects’ counsels which includes Mrs MC Ilondu, Joe Onuoha and others before the court. Counsels to the15 sus­pects who will appear in court today, Mrs. M. C. Ilondu, Joe Onuoha and others had raised an objection that the magis­trate court sitting at Du­nukofia where the police arraigned them has no jurisdiction to entertain the matter and proceed­ed to the High court to file the application. Meanwhile, the act­ing president general of Abagana town union, Chief Ben Ugha has condemned what he described as indiscrimi­nate attack and arrest of people of Abagana by se­curity operatives in col­laboration with local vig­ilante group suspected to be working for Ukpo people. Ugha alleged that one Chibuzo Okoye, an Oka­da rider from Abagana was arrested by local vig­ilante and handed over to the police while convey­ing a passenger to Ukpo noting that the ‘Okada man’ who is the bread winner of his many chil­dren and aged mother is in detention for over two weeks. The Acting president general also alleged that one Emeka Nwao­kaka was ambushed and beaten to a pulp by some armed people suspected to be working in the in­terest of Abagana, add­ing that the police was able to rescue Nwokaka and transferred him to a nearby hospital at Ifit­edunu. Ugha called on the In­spector General of Police to order the vigilante group and their agents or collaborators to stop attacking the people of Abangana since the mat­ter has been taken to court of competent juris­diction by the police. “The matter is now in court let them allow the court to decide the case and stop attacking us” he added.]]>
