Lawyers and other professionals pride themselves on their prowess at coaching and mentoring junior members of their profession. But when asked for proof of such prowess, they struggle to provide any.
Now, thanks to a vocational certification process offered by the Institute of Leadership Development, anyone with informal experience in training, coaching, mentoring or team leadership and development can now apply to have such experience formally evidenced in the form of a Certificate of Endorsement.
Said Joyce Ibarra, a senior lawyer who has mentored several new wigs, “This is just perfect for someone like me as it not only serves as recognition for what I do in my spare time but can also help open new doors of opportunity for me.”
The endorsement process is simple and straightforward involving completing an application form together with your profile, followed by a short telephone or face-to-face interview, if required. Each applicant will then undergo a half-day induction where the certificate of endorsement will be formally presented.
Sadiat Ahmed, an accountant, who currently trains, coaches and mentors new entrants in her firm had this to say: “This is not my principal role, however, I’ve coached and mentored younger colleagues for over a decade and it gives me fulfilment when they succeed. My firm also appreciates my contribution, but to have this certificate as formal evidence of my skill just crowns it all nicely.”
